Designer's Notes

Perched above the harbour with views across to Sentosa, this apartment was reimagined as a zen retreat. Shoji-style screens diffuse the light, a tatami-mat study looks out over the water, and hand-finished limewash walls give every surface a quiet, mineral texture. The owners' collection of sculpture and statuary guided the design. We carved out backlit timber niches so each piece is lit like a small shrine, and dressed the spaces with paper lanterns and gourd-shaped lamps that glow rather than shine. Materials stay natural end to end: walnut, stone, woven textures, aged brass. It is a home built for slowness, where the view does the talking and the interior knows when to stay silent.
