How much does a bathroom renovation cost in 2026?

By scope and property type:

Two bathrooms rarely cost double one — mobilisation, hoisting and waterproofing crews overlap — so a two-bathroom package typically runs 1.7–1.8× the single-bathroom price.

Where does the money actually go?

Labour-heavy wet trades dominate: hacking, waterproofing and tiling together take 45–60% of a rebuild budget, before a single visible fitting is installed.

• Hacking & disposal: S$800–1,500 per bathroom
• Waterproofing: S$500–1,000 — the least visible line and the least skippable
• Tiling: S$1,500–4,000 depending on tile size and pattern; large-format and herringbone cost more to lay, not just to buy

What rules affect bathroom renovations?

HDB: hacking and retiling need an HDB permit through a registered contractor — and new BTO bathrooms can't have floor tiles hacked within the first three years, because the waterproofing membrane warranty applies (overlay is the workaround). Where can you save — and where shouldn't you?

Save on ware and layout; never on the membrane.

• Keep the layout: fixtures in their existing positions save S$1,000–2,500 of plumbing relocation per bathroom
• Overlay instead of hack where the base tiles are sound — roughly half the cost of a retile
• Mid-tier ware, good hardware: a S$400 basin with a quality mixer outlasts the reverse
• Don't skimp: waterproofing, drainage slope (a S$0 design decision that prevents permanent puddles), and exhaust ventilation — mould remediation costs more than the fan did

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A single bathroom rebuild takes 2–3 weeks: hacking (2–3 days), plumbing rough-in (2–3 days), waterproofing with curing and flood test (3–4 days — the step that cannot be rushed), tiling (4–6 days), then fixtures and glass (3–5 days). Within a whole-home renovation it runs in parallel with other trades; standalone, add a few days of mobilisation at each end. The curing time is where dishonest schedules cheat — a "one-week bathroom" usually means a skipped flood test.
